Depression is not the same as feeling SAD. Rather it is when feelings of sadness or sad feelings occur regularly(maybe even daily) for a continuous period of time(more than two weeks, at a stretch) that it could be investigated as Depression.
In some of my articles on Triond, I have covered, quite extensively the topic on Depression, it's causes, symptoms,treatment options, and implications. Depression is a serious illness and it does have it's impact on our lives more than we would like to imagine.
In my efforts, as a (self-appointed) mental health advocate, it is my constant endeavour to spread awareness on the subject of mental health. And this time, I can say quite sincerely, this has little to do with me trying to increase my views. I want you to read and spread the message as much as you can.
Mental health awareness is as important to you as it is to me. And so to all of us!
It is quite appalling that even when we are in the 21st century, that few of us really know the difference between being depressed and sad! And that mental health is still considered taboo!Or fodder for cutting jokes!! Even in parts of the developed world.
Physical health, mental health, spiritual health, emotional health, are important aspects of our overall health and well-being. We are ever willing to talk about our physical ailments, not the same when it comes to the other areas of our health. Even though, scientific research evidence is increasingly pointing out to the fact that all areas of our health( physical,mental, emotional,spiritual)are interlinked and cannot really be separated out for treatment purposes.
